The Hellenic Financial Stability Fund (HFSF) announces that the Ministry of Finance has concluded the procedure for the replacement of the resigned HFSF Chairman. The new Chairman of the General Council of the HFSF is Mr. George Michelis with mandate until June 30th, 2017.
Mr. George Michelis has many years of experience in the banking industry having served as
the Chief Executive Officer at Bancpost, a subsidiary of Eurobank in Romania, as General
Manager at Emporiki Bank and as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at
Egnatia Bank, of which he was a founding member.
Mr. Michelis has also served as Administrative Director at the Onassis Cardiac Surgery
Center and was a member of Boards of Directors and Executive Committees in many
financial institutions and organizations in Greece and abroad. He has also served as the
Mayor of Skopelos from 2011 until 2014.
He holds a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Economics from Northeastern University Boston, USA and
from 1978 to 1984 he taught economics at various universities in the United States.
